Since its foundation in 1823, Tampico has had an important commercial tradition. It has been a primary entrance for exterior commerce that has been mantained along the years and together with the service industry, they are the most significative for the regional GDP.
During the last few years an outstanding commercial increase has been registered with the arrival of a great quantity of various franchises mainly located in the Golden zone. Among the the franchises that have established here or will soon open you will find: DQ TreatWorks, Popeye´s, Peter Pipper Pizza, Subway, Zafari Car Wash, Definité, Italian Coffee Shop, Applebee’s, La Casa del Waffle and El Papalote, in addition to Burger King, Domino’s Pizza, Baskin Robins, Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Church´s Chicken and Blockbuster that were established a few years ago.

The Metropolitan zone has registered and intense touristic activity which has made this region one of the most dynamic and with higher growth rate. During the last years many investments have arrived from national and international chains which have been translated in the construction of new hotels and restaurants motivating the expansion, modernization and remodelation of those that already existed. These results have been totally favourable for tourists that visit us frequently.
Here you can also find many department stores that belong to national as well as international commercial chains such as: Sam´s, Wal-Mart, HEB, City Club, Comercial Mexicana, Soriana, Chedraui, Liverpool, Sanborns, Sears, Woolworth, El Nuevo Mundo México, Home Depot, Office Depot, Famsa and COPPEL, besides local and regional commercial establishments like Arteli, Fred and Las Novedades.
Among the shopping malls you will find: Plaza Crystal, Plaza Agua Dulce, Plaza Faja de Oro, Plaza Real HEB, Plaza Toscana, Soriana Ejército and Aeropuerto and soon to open Plaza La Herradura. Some other projects are the Mega Proyecto Laguna del Carpintero. The car industry has established a great number of agencies. Another important branch in this zone is the banking sector having the principal banks operating in the region as well as bureaus de change and developing banks.
