Education in the Metropolitan Zone has outstand in the last few years. Many excellent schools as well as public and private universities have been established here which guarantee the community, companies and industry many graduates with high level excellence. The zone has excellent bilingual elementary and high-schools.

There are also many public as well as private universities that offer a great variety of careers and post-graduate courses such as Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Tamaulipas (IEST), Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) Campus Tampico, Instituto de Ciencias y Estudios Superiores de Tamaulipas (ICEST), Universidad Valle de Bravo-Universidad Valle de México (UVB-UVM), Universidad del Noreste (UNE), Universidad del Golfo, the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT), Instituto Tecnológico de Cd. Madero and Politécnico Nacional among others.

The Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Tampico (ITESM) has national a international credited programs and is considered as one of the best universities in Latin America.

The Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Tamaulipas (IEST) is incorporated with the Anahuac University. This university is competitive and offers a variety or programs, services, infrastructure and technology, forming competent people with a solid integral formation.

The Universidad Valle de Bravo-Universidad del Valle de México (UVB-UVM) was established in 1981 in Tampico. It is well known for the quality of its courses providing students the best tools for their formation.

The Instituto de Ciencias y Estudios Superiores de Tamaulipas (ICEST) has been providing education for 30 years. It works on a fourth-month study plan. Most of its teachers own postgraduate studies.
