Inside the Metropolitan Zone there are two important ports. Thanks to their strategic location they provide to the established companies a competitive advantage in the manufacturing and commercialization of products destined to either national or international distribution. The Port of Tampico is one of the most important and versatile ports in the east coast of Mexico. It is considered as a multipurpose port because of its diversity in handling merchandise. It has 44 km of water front in both river margins. It also has 2 public terminals, 6 private terminals, 10 patios for the construction of marine platforms, 7 docks for PEMEX, a dry dock, a floating dock and 2 docks for the Army and Navy shipyards.
There are 11 docking positions in the two public terminals and specialized equipment for handling merchandise including general cargo, mineral and agricultural bulk, containers and over dimension cargo. There are 20 shipping companies that link to more than 100 countries in the world. Searching to expand its services to passenger vessels, last February our port received for the second time the visit of The World, a majestic and unique cruise ship that sells its cabins as luxurious apartments.
