Communications


The cities of Tampico, Madero and Altamira are strategically communicated by air and land, keeping up with its speedy tourist, commercial and industrial growth, which triggers a continuous increase in the tourist flow who visit the city for leisure or business, as well as the flow of merchandise, raw material and finished products which are needed or produced here.

Currently, Tampico receives great investment for the creation or renovation of its street loops, which have been recently completed in the Hidalgo Avenue and Ribera de Champayán (entering Tancol) intersection, as well as the Hidalgo Avenue and Loma Real Avenue intersection.

In order to sidetrack heavy traffic there is the Libramiento Poniente located at the limit of Tampico and Altamira which connects to the main highways without having to enter the city.



On the other hand, in regards to air transportation, Tampico has the Francisco Javier Mina airport, where several national airlines operate, such as: Mexicana de Aviación, Aviacsa, Interjet, Alma de Mexico, Vivaerobus, Aerolitoral, and Aerocalifornia, which offer flights to México City, Monterrey NL, Toluca Edo. de México, Veracruz, Villa Hermosa, Cd. del Carmen, Reynosa Tam y Guadalajara Jal on a daily basis. Likewise, the international airline Continental operates here, offering a daily flight to Houston, Texas, where you will be able to catch a connecting flight to all parts of the world.

Two of the most important railway companies operate in the zone which moves cargo that enters and exits the Port of Tampico, Refinería Mexicana and the Portuary Industrial Complex of Altamira to the principal national production centres in the country.

Highways
Highway 81 to the north, which leads to Cd. Victoria and is a link to Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo; at Manuel, this highway connects with highway 180 to Matamoros and at González it unites with Highway 80 that will take you to Cd. Mante and San Luis Potosi. The Coastal Highway which begins at the Industrial Port of Altamira and ends at Barra del Tordo in Aldama, has been recently inaugurated. Highway 180 to Tuxpam, Ver. gets you to Poza Rica where you can get to Mexico City or Veracruz.
