Fishing
Without a doubt this zone is an excellent choice for sport fishing due to its privileged geographic location next to the Gulf of Mexico surrounded by rivers, numerous lagoons and valleys as well as other bodies of water, where tarpon, marlin, snook, wahoo, jack crevalle, and skipjack tuna can be captured, among other fish.

All year round you can fish here. If you don’t have your own boat, there are businesses that serve as boat rentals so you can go fish. The Club de Regatas Corona and the Club the Yates de Tampico carry out important national and international tournaments.
Golf
Golf is a very traditional sport in the southern part of Tamaulipas. There are 5 courses in which you can practice this sport. The oldest one and with more tradition is located inside the Club Campestre de Tampico. This llast Holy Week celebrated its 83rd edition international tournament. This 9 hole rolling course has Bermuda Grass in both its Fairways and Greens.

The Club Lagunas de Miralta is located inside the housing estate of the same name in Altamira. It allows the payment of green fee. This 6,970 yard golf course has 18 holes in a semi-plain terrain.
Another golf course in the zone is the Club de Golf Refinería Madero. It is located only 5 minutes away from Miramar Beach. It has 9 holes and allows the payment of green fee with a previous reservation.
The golf course that’s being built in the tourist development El Paraíso promises to be spectacular. It is located in Aldama, Tamaulipas only one hour away from Tampico. It was designed by Robert Von Hagge and it includes 18 holes par 12 and 7,125 yards of hills, valleys and lakes with an incredible view to the river.
Deportes Acuáticos
The geographical location of this zone surrounded by rivers and lagoons makes it favorable to practice a great number of aquatic sports such as aquatic ski, wakeboard, surf, kitesurf and windsurf.
WAKEBOARD
Wakeboard is mainly practiced in the Chairel Lagoon as well as in the Tamesí River. The tules, or lagoon plants located here, work as wind curtains while the width of the canals prevent the winds from affecting the exercises and turns that characterize this sport. This city has an excellent wakeboard school which along its 7 years has won international prestige.

SURF
The coast of the southern tip of Tamaulipas and the north of Veracruz is perfect for practicing surf thanks to its soft beachbreak. Wall waves are the main type of waves that form here, especially during the morning. The best season to practice this sport is from November to March. The best places to surf are found at the Malecón in Miramar Beach, crossing the Pánuco River from the Malecón in the coast of Veracruz and in the beach of Altamira between the two breakwaters.

WINDSURF
The winds that regularly blow in our coasts, mainly the north winds, are favorable to practice windsurf. Prove of that was last year, when Miramar Beach hosted the National Windsurf Olympics.
KITESURF
Another aquatic sport that can be practiced is kitesurf thanks to the weather conditions with very constant winds, except for the rain season in which it is not recommended to practice. When reaching high speed, this sport can be something spectacular. It is not recommended for selftaught persons.
