Fishing
Recreational fishing is one of the most popular sports in the zone, which offers advantages due to its privileged geographic location next to the Gulf of Mexico, its rivers, and most of all the Pánuco and Tamesí River, its numerous lagoons, and valleys as well as other bodies of water, which are located in the southern part of the state, where tarpon, marlin, snook, wahoo, jack crevalle, and skipjack tuna can be captured, among other other fish.
The Yacht Club as well as the Regatas Corona Club is located in Tampico and every year they carry out important tournaments such as the International Tarpoon and the International Marlin Fishing Tournaments. These contests take place during the months of August and July, as well as a great variety of other smaller fishing competitions thattake place throughout the year.
Golf
Tampico has a great golf tradition, due to the location of one of the oldest clubs of the country, the Club Campestre de Tampico (Country Club of Tampico). In addition, other clubs in nearby cities joined it throughout the years, such as the Club Lagunas de Miralta in Altamira, the Refinaría Madero Club in Madero and El Solito in Tampico Alto, Veracruz.
The Country Club is one of the most beautiful in the country. Its field takes advantage of the geographical obstacles making it one the best views of the city. Since 1926 every Easter it celebrates one of the most traditional and internationally recognizes gold matches in Mexico.
The Club Lagunas de Miralta has a field guaranteed by the design of Joe Finger and Thomas and is surrounded by beautiful lagoons and inner lakes, in the neighborhood with this same name.
The Club of Golf El Solito has 9 hole field, and is located within this Center of Ecological Coexistence, crossing the Tampico Bridge, 18 km away from Tampico. The Golf Club Refinería Madero, is located in front of the PEMEX Refinery, in Madero, 5 minutes away from the Miramar beach, and allows you to go in with a previous reservation.
Finally, a little more than an hour away, within the Tourist Development El Paraíso, there is a spectacular 18 hole golf course with 72 out of 7.125 yards designed by Robert Von Hagge. In here, you will have the opportunity to live an unforgettable experience playing between hills, inner valleys, lakes, exuberant vegetation and extraordinary views of the river.
