El Consuelo
Located on the banks of the Tampaón River near to Tamuín, San Luis Potosí, El Consuelo or “Tamahi” its name in tenek dialect is an archaeological site that was developed during the Late Post classic between 1200 and 1500 D.C. when the Huasteca Culture reached its highest splendor. This site was excavated in 1946 by the archaeologist Wilfrido Du Solier Massieu and is part of a system of urban positions and solar markers forming a triangle with the Archeological Zones of Tantoc and Agua Nueva that are not yet open to the public.

The part of the archeological zone of El Consuelo that you can visit today, presents a rectangular platform of 137 meters from north to south built in stone with two stairs in its east façade. At the top, it has a ceremonial square with six religious type structures and two of the dwelling type. Its length was originally of several kilometers among it its builders placed several mounds around the squares.

The central structure is composed by a body facing east, with a simulated staircase from where a sidewalk with two cones cut off at the top containing vestiges of wall paints, from which a ceremony with twelve people wearing outfits seemingly like Quetzalcoatl had been identified and a series of squares with religious orientation. Being the only sample of Huasteca wall paints known to date. It is believed that there is also what it seems an astrological observatory with a platform with a diameter of 10 meters.
