El Sabinito

El Sabinito is an Archaeological Zone discovered in 1987 in an almost virgin region, with plentiful vegetation. Its is located in the municipality of Soto La Marina on a detour to the north of the Tamaulipas mountain range and is in this State one of the major cultural sites from the inhabitants that lived on these lands and that developed an original civilization that had its roots from the uto-aztecas or uto-nahuas that migrated to this region one thousand years before our era adopting customs from the local primitive tribes.


El Sabinito is an archaeological site of great majestic sight t El Sabinito es una Zona Ar Circular bases, contention walls, terraces and staircases built with limestone. All the construction in addition to being well preserved, were built with such symmetry and some knowledge of architecture. The exploration of the site has allowed detecting the existence of 500 structures that is estimated supported a population of 500 inhabitants.
Outstanding in particular, two circular twin buildings that start from the mount side joined by a wall with a staircase o a ceremonial square, from which you access through laddered terraces to other building surrounding them. In this square where the largest pyramid is found, there is a ceremonial altar 2 meters wide and 6 meters length with several levels on the sides.

Due to its geographic location atop a mound and to its construction by terraces, it is believed that El Sabinito in addition to being an important residential zone was also an observation post and control where surveillance was done on potential incursion of other nomad groups from the region.

 

 

Como llegar / How to get there: De Tampico tome la carretera 180 a Reynosa que marca 150 km. a Soto la Marina, 4 km antes de llegar a esa población a mano izquierda encontrará un anuncio que marca la carretera 70 a Cd. Victoria por donde caminará 21 km. hasta encontrar el aviso que marca la entrada a El Sabinito, de ese punto son 5 km. que recorrerá aprox. En 20 minutos por una angosta brecha que sube por la sierra hasta  la Zona Arqueológica.

From Tampico, take Highway 180 to Soto la Marina   (150 km.) and you will get to a sign of Ejido El Sabinito where an unpaved road starts for 5 km. that will get you to the archaeological zone. Visit hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
