Arms Square

The old Main Square that today is know as Arms Square or Constitution Square is a beautiful square and center of the politic, civil and religious life of Tampico. It is also a frame for the Municipal Palace, the DIF Building and Tampico’s Cathedral. It is flanked by the streets Colón, Carranza, Olmos and Díaz Mirón.

At its center is has a baroque style kiosk built in 1949 with pink quarry and granite which circular structure holds eight enormous arms where a great dome rests covered with blue tile.

On Díaz Mirón Street you will find the bronze stature of José Calderón Torres, also known as Pepito el Terrestre, a popular person of Tampico’s Pop Culture. He was 2.35 meters high and was very loved by the all the workers of the docks and markets.

On the southeast and northwest ends of the square you will find a coffee shop and soda fountain of great tradition where you can enjoy a delicious ice cream or a juice made of regional fresh fruits.
