METRO

One of the most symbolic places in Tampico is the Metropolitan Cultural Space. Inaugurated only five years ago, this place is a result of the shared effort between the government and society which have turned it into a space where the zone’s cultural patrimony is preserved, enjoyed and diffused, as well as a popularization of the arts in all of its manifestations.

Inside its installations you can find the Metropolitan Theatre with a capacity for 1154 people, the Experimental Theatre host of the Scenic Arts Workshops, the Gallery for Temporary Art Expositions with an area of 1000 m2 and the Huasteca Culture Museum. You can also find the media library Rafael Ramírez Heredia with a collection of 17,600 books, a cafeteria as well as a square and a large flat ground area that have been used as a space for massive outdoor presentations.

Since its inauguration on October of 2003, this place has hosted the Festival Internacional Tamaulipas Tampico, the XXX Congreso Mundial de Teatro del Instituto Internacional de Teatro de la UNESCO, the literary festivals Letras en el Golfo and Letras del Mundo en Tamaulipas, the Festival Escénico del Noreste, the Concurso Estatal de Teatro, the beauty pageant Nuestra Belleza México, the Día Internacional de la Danza and the Día Mundial de Teatro. Inside its theatre there have been 552 international performances among them Les Ballets de Montecarlo and the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra of London, Lord of the Dance and the Compañía Nacional de Danza.

The Gallery for Temporary Art Expositions is a space that follows all the international standards of security, temperature, humidity and illumination. It has hosted 24 national and international expositions where the handling, the conservation and the exposition area conditions as well as the creativity of the personnel stand out. Besides motivating the art exchange with other museums and collections, it has also presented many artists from Tamaulipas with interesting proposals.
