METRO

The Espacio Cultural Metropolitano (METRO) is located only less than one kilometer from Tampico’s Historical Downtown on López Mateos Boulevard in the terrains that surround Carpenter’s Lagoon. Since its inauguration in the year 2003, this unique space has dedicated itself to promote culture and artistic expressions giving national as well as international projection to the southern region of Tamaulipas.  It has hosted many important events such as the “XXX Congreso Mundial del Instituto Internacional de Teatro UNESCO Quetzalcoatl 2004”, three editions of the “Festival Internacional de Tamaulipas” which takes place every year in the month of October, two editions of the festival “Letras del Golfo”, pictorial expositions, theatrical representations, dance shows and artistic presentations of world known companies.

Its modern installations have 27,000 m2 of construction that house the Metropolitan Theatre, the Temporary Exhibits Gallery, the Huasteca Culture Museum and a recently inaugurated library as well as a lobby, an area for educational services, roofed a parking lot, a ground area for 3500 people, a cafeteria, a restaurant and a lounge bar.


The Metropolitan Theater is equipped and configured according to the international technical requirements and international specifications required.   It has a capacity for 1,172 people. Among its areas it has 18 dressing rooms, press room, stage machinery and all that is needed for two daily shows to take place.  It also has an orchestra elevator and all the necessary equipment for complete dance, opera and theatrical presentations.

The Temporary Exhibits Gallery with 500 m2 of constructed area, all within international standards for safety, illumination and humidity control that allows it to service the technical requirements asked by the museums of the world for international and domestic exhibits.  Some of the exhibits that took place here are: “Colección Rufino Tamayo del Museo de Arte Moderno de México”, “Plástica S.XX”, “Grandes Maestros del Arte Mexicano”, “El Habitar del Signo” and “Botánica”.

Temporary Exhibits Gallery: Tuesdays to Sundays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
