Huasteca Culture Museum

The museum of the Huasteca Culture is located inside the Metropolitan Cultural Space. It is part of INAH’s national museum network. It houses 12 exposition rooms and a relevant archeological and ethnological collection.

The tour through this museum starts in the first room which presents the Huasteca as a geographical region and a cultural entity. The next room named “Life and Fertility” shows the cult made to fertility through three important aspects: birth, death and rebirth.

The third room named “Art” presents this culture’s ability to create pieces with high esthetic quality. Further ahead you will find the fourth room named “Death” which exhibits a reconstruction of a typical burial of this époque which reaffirms the belief that there was indeed life after death and the importance of the offerings to take to the other side.

The fifth room “Cosmovision” gives us a brief idea of the way they organized the universe. On the sixth room “Daily Life” you will find a replica of a Huasteca house and the tools they used in their homes.“Body and Ornament” is the name of the seventh room which shows the ornaments and attires used by this culture.“Working Space” is the eighth room and it shows all the different activities that this culture realized such as agriculture, hunting, fishing and textile.

The ninth room shows the products, ideas and techniques these natives realized as exchange with other cultures in order to enrich their economy and culture. “Sacred Space” is the next room which presents the urban organization and the social structure. It exhibits the reconstruction of an altar found in Tahomi.

The last room “Huasteca Patrimony” shows the fundamental aspects that maintain this culture alive nowadays in all its different forms such as myths, music, dance and food.
